Welcome To Bowie CountyToday, Bowie County has a population of approximately 90,000 people, fifty percent of that population lives in Texarkana. Other towns in the county include: New Boston, DeKalb, Simms, Leary, Hooks, Nash, and Wake Village. Bowie County is diverse, ranging from a suburban lifestyle to a very rural way of life. In the early 1800’s, Caddo Indians inhabited this area when white men first came to explore and settle. The Caddo were a non-nomadic tribe, living in conical, grass thatched huts. They raised corn, beans, squash, sunflowers and tobacco. Bowie County has changed over the years, as have the needs of its residents. To address those needs, the staff of Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service of Bowie County offers a wide variety of educational programs and informational literature. Programs are offered in traditional agriculture, 4-H and youth development, horticulture and family and consumer sciences. Anyone needing special assistance at an Extension program should contact the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office at 903-628-6702 at least one week prior to the program or event. Extension programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
